'Pakaka Nalu' a block print by Dietrich Varez

King Kamehameha and Queen Ka'ahumanu were known to be particularly skillful at pakaka nalu. or surfing in canoes.  A particularly Hawaiian twist to this sport was to leap from the canoe into a surfboard to complete the ride.
